Olatinos is an online resource dedicated to uncovering pertinent stuff thats directly related to Latinos / Hispanics in the state of Oregon. The President’s call for each one of us, as good citizens, to volunteer or serve our community is the main impetus behind motivating Olatinos into existence.

Another reason why Olatinos.org exists is to change the way Latinos have traditionally been negatively depicted by the media.    Back in late 2004/ early 2005, before the main Editor of Olatinos.org moved to the Portland area he did a simple Google search using the key words “Portland Latinos / Hispanics and “Oregon Latinos / Hispanics”  and most of the top results generated, portrayed Latinos invovled in gangs- or Latinos who had commited acts of violence.

Olatinos, in response to how maistream depicts Latinos,  directly challenges the notion that we are all a bunch of lazy, criminals- instead Olatinos puts a postive spin on highlighting local news, information and events that pertain to Hispanics / Latinos in the state of Oregon.

Olatinos.org does not receive any funding.  It exists simply because a group of dedicated Latinos saw a need to recognize relevant local  information, news and events and reframing it from a positive perspective.
